Should I remortgage or take out a secured loan?
It is important to choose the right product which suits your needs. There are many advantages to both. Read our secured loan and remortgage pages for assistance. Secured loans are generally arranged for advances below £60,000, generally have cheaper access and usually are arranged quickly. Remortgages generally take longer to arrange and usually have higher access fees, however, may have lower interest rates as the advance amount can be much higher.
How much can I borrow?
Secured loans from £5000 to £60,000 although requests above this amount will be considered on an individual basis. Remortgages and mortgages from £25,000 to £1m plus. Unsecured loans from £3000 to £15000.
Can I protect my repayments against accident, sickness & Redundancy?
Yes. Most lenders offer competitive protection policies which will protect your repayments against these unforeseen circumstances and can usually be taken out in sole, joint or a combination of both names.
Can I have Life Cover?
Yes. Most lenders offer Life Protection policies linked to their loan plans at reasonable costs or some offer free life cover if their Accident, sickness and Redundancy plans are used. Payments can also be protected by ASU policies.
What does APR mean?
It stands for Annual Percentage Rate. It was introduced to allow a consumer to measure the cost of borrowing as all fees and charges should be taken into account when calculating the figure.
What is a 'credit search'?
When you apply for any type of credit most lenders will carry out a search of your credit file which is held by the credit reference agencies. This allows them to underwrite your application in line with their own lending policies. If there is any adverse information registered against you it is held here. The two main credit reference agencies are Equifax and Experion.
Can I have a copy of my own credit file?
Yes, by writing to the credit reference agency enclosing their nominal administration fee. They will then send you a copy of your file.

Can I settle secured loans early?
Yes, if you want to settle your loan early you will need to write or phone your lender and request a 'Settlement Figure'. The Consumer Credit Act 1974 lays down specific guidelines that lenders follow in calculating this figure, including a rebate for settling early. Most lenders do not also charge the borrower all they are entitled to under the Early Settlement. Regulations of the Consumer Credit Act. Check the early settlement conditions of your choice of lender.
If my plan allows capital repayments to be made will I be penalised for settling early?
No, as most lenders allowing standard capital repayments (i.e repayments of any amount at any time) charge interest on the outstanding balance, the settlement figure is calculated on the balance outstanding at the time of settlement. Where capital repayments are made, the outstanding balance is lower and the settlement figure, therefore, reduced.
Can I have a secured loan even if I do not have enough equity in my property?
Yes. We have access to many plans up which allow up to 125% of equity subject to the lenders underwriting policy.
